New rescue dog, need advice on hot spots.?
I just rescued (took it in off someone from Craigslist) a 10 month old male Blue Heeler.
He has what appears to be a big hot spot on the middle of his back. It looks really dry and like its cracking. It is a scab and it looks to be peeling/irritated. The lady told us that she was putting Sulfadine on it and it seemed to be helping.
Is that what Sulfadine is used for???.
Also, I am not 100% sure it is a hot spot because I also noticed some ticks in his ears and on his neck under his collar. I was thinking maybe she is giving him away because he has these issues and just didn’t want to deal with it anymore.
After about 10 minutes or so of looking at it and commenting about it,my fiance asked her if it could be mange, and that is when she had said that she took him to the vet a week ago and that they did a skin scraping and that it came back that it was indeed just a hot spot. She didn’t have any vet paper work or anything though. She said she had to get rid of him because she is moving.
Right before we left, she was crying and petting him and saying that she is going to miss him and all, but when I offered her that we can keep in touch/contact and that I will email her photos and call her and tell her how he is doing, she replied "no, ththat’sk" and just left (we met in a public place).. SO, that kinda gets me thinking. I darn well know that if I ever had to rere homene of my dogs, I’d want to keep in touch with whoever adopted him/her.
So, what do you all think? and is Soulfadine good for what it sounds like is on his back side?..
Oh, I was looking at all of his skin on his body, and it all seems to be pretty dry and flaky, but the only hot spot is that one.. but its pretty decent size. Could it also be mange?.. If it was mange wouldn’t it be all over his face/head and stuff?
She may have lied to you about the test results or even having taken the dog to the vet. This dog needs to see a vet VERY soon, and I don’t suppose she gave you the name of her vet? Medical records would be helpful. In truth, you may have a dog that’s never even had vaccinations or worming, so a heartworm test and the whole checkup gamut needs to be done. The dog could have mange, and that can be eventually life-threatening, depending on the type of mange. You did a wonderful thing taking the dog, but you may have taken on a lot. Best of luck.

Vitamins or supplements to cure Skin Problem?
I went to the dermatologist for a skin problem that I have been having since at least 5 years. His diagnostic was that I am inflicting myself these scabs.
I shook hand with a big smile and told him thanks, now I’ll go see a psychiatrist instead. I’m so lucky I met such a doctor like you. He really thought I meant all I said, but honestly my comments were filled with sarcasm.
I know about OCD (thanks to Discovery channel and Dr. Phil). But I am NOT picking my skin and some irruptions occur in places that I would need to be a contortionist if I was indeed inflicting this to me.
As a matter of fact, I have shown a family doctor how these irruptions look like and that doctor told me that it looks a lot like flea bites. Now I do not have any pets and I am a very clean person. I do not leave in an apartment building so it can’t come from anyone’s pet.
This skin problem covers my whole body. Have you perhaps heard of something similar and maybe is there any vitamin or supplements good for skin? Any advice to favor a better skin would be greatly appreciated.
Just to answer a few questions: my mattress is brand new and I sleep with my husband, but I am the only one with a skin problem. So I doubt that I would have bed mites. As for detergent, I thought perhaps it could be that, so I tried many kind even those use to wash baby clothing. But nothing solved the problem
Before I mention a supplement, I think I need to ask some more questions (that hopefully the doctor asked) so we can eliminate any issues that may be causing the skin irritation.
If the irritation looks like a rash or insect bites, I’d first ask how old your bed is and if it is fairly new, where you bought it? I only ask since bed mites and other insects (even if you don’t have a pet) can infest your sleeping area and cause irritation. Next, are you allergic to anything… food allergies, chemical allergies, metal allergies, cotton allergies? Do you wash your cloths in regular detergent or gentle detergent for sensitive skin? It sounds like the irritation might be an environmental cause, something that is near or around you…. if you can illuminate any external irritant, hopefully your skin will clear-up. If not, a topical skin cream to reduce irritation like coconut oil or taking salmon oil and garlic to help enrich the skin and help repel any insects. Or try Burdock Root capsules, and Wild Oregano capsules. That’s as much help as I can offer. You can try to find other help below:
