Tips on Pet Ringworm Diagnosis
We would like to give you a few tips on how to determine if your pet actually has the ringworm fungus.
DIAGNOSIS
Ringworm is diagnosed three different ways:
1) By looking for typical ringworm lesions on the skin
2) Using a woods lamp (however only two of the four species of fungi fluoresce)
3) By having your Vet performs a culture of the hair for the fungus. The culture is the most accurate; however it will take 2 to 3 weeks for the results.
A diagnosis of this disease cannot be made based just on the appearance of the lesion. Demodectic mange, sarcoptic mange, and allergic dermatitis can look just like this also.
