My dog is itchy but its not fles… Help?
My dog has had this problem before. His face and his eyes start to scab up, hes all ways licking his paws and his back is supper sensitive to ich. When you scratch it gets moist and oily. To solve this in the past we just gave him fish oil and it did the trick. Now its just bairly preventing it from getting worse. Any idea? It might be mange but im not sure… i know your going to tell me go to a vet… Im not asking if i should take him i all ready know and i am… im asking if you know what it is.
Itching is caused by many things. Fleas, dry skin, mange, allergies.
The vet will be able to help you figure out what it is. We on the net would just be guessing.

My puppy has demoductic mange, the treatment is expensive and toxic to her health. other treatment options?
the form of mange is demoex. it causes her to itch like crazy. her ears have bumps and scabs. and she bites herself till she bleeds. if we don’t take her to the vets she is only going to get worse. but i haven’t read very many good things about it. are there any other options for treatments?
i have taken her to the vet and they say the dips will help but if it’s toxic to her health shouldn’t i be trying to find another option?
the treatment IS EXPENSIVE. and frontline and advantix are NOT an option. this form of mange is herreditary and is caused when the puppy has an immature immune system, not a stressed immune system. and we haven’t let it go for too long as some have suggested. we have taken her to numerous vets before one figured out what is wrong. she can’y die from this she is just beyond very uncomfortable. i just want to make sure there aren’t any other LEGIT solutions before we pay over 400 something for a treatment that is hazardess to her health.
Just do the dips, they are not the best but it will clearly help her in this case. Then, see if there is any preventative things you can do so this doesn’t happen again. Good luck and I hope your pup feels better!

Red mange treatment?! PLEASE help!?
We have a 10 week old boxer mix pup that had a rash on his head. We took him to the vet, and they decided that it was red mange. They gave us the meds to dip him in. We brought him home and dipped him yesterday. Today, it looks WORSE! What’s happening? I plan on calling the vet tomorrow, because they aren’t in tonight, because it is so late. PLEASE HELP!
Your vet must not have explained mange to you very well at all. Mange mites damage the hair follicles and all the hair dies and falls out. Just because the mites are killed by the dip doesn’t mean your dog will miraculously be cured. The hair takes quite a bit of time to grow back. Your dog’s hair will continue to fall out and he will look worse until the new hair grows back in.
You really should call your vet and get a good explanation of mange.

Are there any natural ways or home remedies to cure sarcoptic mange?
Hello everyone! i took my 14 week old kitten to the vet today and he told me that my kitten has sarcoptic mange. and it will cost $550 total to treat him. i am freaked out cuz i cant afford it, but i know it has to be dealt with SOON, so i wanted to try a home remedy for it if there is one.
No, there are no home remedies. Try taking him to a few other vets (or call around) to get other quotes. I have worked in animal hospitals for 14 years and this sounds expensive. I’ll bet if you check around you can get a less expensive treatment or a place that can take payments. Also, be careful! Sarcoptic mange is transmittable to humans and other animals!

I think my new humane society dog has mange??
I got him a few weeks ago, and he was very abused. He was very underweight and has scars all over him from barb wire and he also had ticks. He was treated for the ticks before he came home with me, and at first I thought that his “dandruff” was because of his breed, which is prone to bad skin, a boxer/pitt mix. He also had scabs from the tick bites, so that caused some hair to fall off when the scab did. Now he is itching his ears and back all the time, and is starting to lose hair on his back. He is going to the vet tomorow, but I want to know what I can do to prevent infestation on my 2 other small dogs, and my child. He is a great dog, we got him to be the protector of the house since my husband is leaving for Iraq in a few weeks. He is just the most gentle and loving dog in the world. I dont know what to do since I have a child in the same house as him.
He will be going to the vet tommorow. Overall he is doing so much better, I am just really worried about my 17 month old son.
Keep him seperated from the resident pets and wash everything until you can get to the vet.

What is a good alternative to using Revolution on my dog?
He had sarcoptic mange, so the vet recommended revolution, which treats:
Fleas
heartworm
ear mites
mange
ticks
I am considering maybe just looking for something that prevents the heartworm, as he hasn’t shown symptoms of mange in a long time, and he’s never had a flea or tick on him.
All pets – indoor or outdoor – should be kept on flea and tick prevention year round. Fleas are so easy to catch, and once they’re in your house, it is not easy to get rid of them. We had a major infestation right when the topical flea treatments were being introduced. One tube of that stuff on our german shepard, and we watched fleas falling off of him. Flea infestation can lead to death, and tick bites can cause long lasting illnesses. And, believe me, ear mites are HARD to get rid of. I know from experience.
It is incredibly important to keep your dog on heartworm preventative all the time, since this can sneak up on you and take your dog from you. Revolution costs about the same for a six-month supply as would Frontline or Advantix AND Heartguard or a similar wormer for six months.
While not endorsed for dogs by all vets, Revolution is one of the best flea/tick applications to ever be available to pet owners. Do not risk the return of mange, or an infestation of fleas or ear mites, or, gods fobid, heartworm. Stick to the Revolution.
