Cheyletiella Mange

Mange on DogCheyletiellosis Mange is a mild form of dermatitis on the skin caused  by mange mites.  It’s also called walking dandruff because of skin scales being carried by the mange mites. These Cheyletiellosis mites live on the surface of the skin of dogs, cats, rabbits and even humans.

The adult Cheyletiellosis Mange mite is microscoptic (0.385 millimeters) and has 8 legs that literally have combs instead of claws.  These mites don’t burrow into the skin as your common mange mites do.  These mites can not survive off the host for more than 10 days and are more common in the areas you would find fleas.

Cheyletiellosis Mange is highly contagious and is transmitted by direct contact with other pets and even to humans.  There are different variations of Cheyletiellosis Mange. Some pets might not show any signs while other signs are itching intensely with scales, and extensive hair loss.

Symptoms in human Cheyletiellosis Mange may include red itchy bumps in the folds of the skin on the arms, legs and buttocks and truck areas. Because this type of mite does not breed, the itch will go away in about 3 weeks.

Any clear moves in behaviour that might indicate Cheyletiellosis Mange need to be taken seriously and quick treatment is essential.  Repeated itching should be taken as a direct indication that Cheyletiellosis Mange  may be present, and mange treatment needs to be applied straight way.

It is important that an immediate mange treatment for Cheyletiellosis Mange is used in combating mange, as this is not a problem that will pass over or heal of its own accord.

Mange, which is caused by mites, must be treated rapidly and efficiently and the mites erased in order to rectify the problem, and the mange treatments for doing this are very specific to the condition of Cheyletiellosis Mange.

If left untreated mange will only get worse as the mange mites take a hold; in such cases the Cheyletiellosis Mange can travel from a specific part of the dog’s body to become an all-encompassing problem that is painful for the dog.

Treatment forCheyletiellosis Mange is straightforward and often quick, although it depends on the type of dog concerned as long haired dogs are harder to treat.

There are several ways in which Cheyletiellosis Mange in dogs is dealt with; the application of mange creams and lotions is generally a preferred method, and in many cases a mange spray is utilized and an antibiotic is prescribed in more severe cases.

In most cases of mange treatment results may begin to be seen after treatment has been ongoing for a week, but sometimes the breed, age and condition of the dog in question has an effect on the efficiency of the treatment.
