More on “Can ear mites cause hearing loss.”

In cases of severe ear mite infestation, history of repetitive infections and untreated cases, hearing loss can be the ultimate result. Hearing loss can be termed as the most common and hazardous ailment resulting from an ear mite infestation.  As these mites predominantly reside in the ear canal or other parts of the ear, an injury to your pet’s hearing device is quite probable. Hearing loss can range from mild loss in hearing sensitivity to complete deafness depending upon the damage to the ears.

The ear mites cause severe inflammation in the ear’s auditory canal and may damage the tympanic membrane which will result in a partial or complete deafness. Ear mite infestation is usually bilateral that is, it affects both the ears at the same time, and one ear is affected rarely. So in cases of bilateral infections both the ears may lose hearing ability resulting in complete deafness of your pet.
