There are different products that are available as an oral treatment for pet ringworm. The most common oral treatment for pet ringworm is Griseofulvin. This oral treatment has to be taken with a fatty meal.

It can cause side effects like lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea. Oral medications for pet ringworm are usually very thick and bad smelling. It is difficult to get these medications down your pet because it most often causes them to gag and vomit. Another oral medication commonly used is Intraconazole. This drug is effective sometimes and can cause nausea. It is not prescribed as often as the Griseofulvin.

Another oral medication for ringworm in pets is Ketoconazole. This is not used very frequently and does require an environmental treatment. Studies have also shown this medication to spread the ringworm infection instead of suppress it. So, this one is not recommended. We do offer several safe and nontoxic ringworm treatment products for pets. All of these products are topical and they are all pleasant smelling. You should not have any problem administering these products to your pet.

If you are treating a dog with ringworm you would use our PetsBestRx Sulfinex Cream, PetsBestRx Healing Gel and the PetsBestRx Pet Wash. If you are treating a cat with ringworm you would use our PetsBestRx Sulfinex Cream and our PetsBestRx Healing and Protection Spray. Because ringworm is highly contagious, it is recommended to treat your environment for ringworm spores. Also oral medications usually take about 30 days to take effect. The PetsBestRx ringworm treatment should show signs of improvement within the first 48 hours of use.

All of our PetsBestRx products except for the PetsBestRx Healing Gel and the PetsBestRx Healing and Protection Spray are suggested to use used on dogs or cats four week old and up.

So these products are the PetsBestRx Sulfinex Cream and the PetsBestRx Pet Wash. These products should also not be used on animals that are pregnant or nursing. Our PetsBestRx Mitcatin Spray, PetsBestRx Healing Gel and PetsBestRx Healing and Protection Spray all do not have age stipulations on their use. It is suggested to dilute the PetsBestRx Pet Wash half and half with water if you are treating a dog that is less than five pounds with the wash. Also if your dog is less than 2 pounds it is suggested to use the PetsBestRx Healing and Protection Spray instead of the PetsBestRx Healing Gel for their treatment of ringworm.

The PetsBestRx Mitactin Spray should be safe to use at any age because it is composed of surfactants which are soaps and detergents.

Bleach will work to get rid of ringworm spores in the environment. We do not suggest the use of bleach on the skin of your pets because it can be very irritable, color tint hair follicles and harm nasal passages. Bleach is also not the best solution for your environment.

You can use bleach for white clothing in the laundry. A good laundry solution is Pura-Cleen Xtreme Cleen. It can be used on color clothing and smells good. Diluting Xtreme Cleen can give you a good disinfectant spray, or used in mop water, to kill the fungal spores on all types of surfaces. Bleach is used to kill the spores but, it is very staining; especially on carpet.

A safe solution is Pura-Cleen Xtreme Cleen or Disinfectant Spray which are anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. We do not recommend putting bleach in your pet. Instead, we have a safe and non-toxic treatment for ringworm which consists of our PetsBestRx Petwash, Sulfinex cream and depending on if it is a cat or dog the Healing and Protection Spray or Healing Gel.
