About Pet Ringworm

Ringworm in pets is highly contagious. It is transmitted by direct contact with ringworm spores. Ringworm can be spread from people to pets and from pets to people. Ringworm is most prominent in cats. Items that come in contact with ringworm spores can also be infected.

Some common items that can be infected are kennels, grooming tools, pet carriers, bedding and pet toys. These items need to be properly disinfected. Spores can remain active in the environment for up to two years. Ringworms symptoms usually occur ten to twelve days after exposure. Some infected pets never have ringworm symptoms, these pets need to be treated even though there are no signs of ringworm on the fur.
